Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborewori has cautioned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state, as well as other employers of labour against rejecting National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to them for their compulsory national service.
Gov. Oborewori issued the directive during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch C, Stream 1 orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, ThankGod Trakiriowei, Gov. Oborevwori stressed the need to provide corps members with a conducive environment to enable them to perform optimally.
He also called on local government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and security agencies to prioritize the safety and well-being of corps members.
“I call on all government agencies and employers of labour not to reject corps members but to provide an enabling environment for them to contribute meaningfully. Ensure their security and create a peaceful atmosphere for these youths to integrate into your communities and contribute to the development of Delta State,” the governor said.
Gov. Oborevwori congratulated the corps members on completing their orientation course and urged them to be good ambassadors in their host communities.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting the NYSC scheme within available resources, including the renovation and development of the orientation camp to ensure comprehensive training for corps members.
State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. John Kwaghe, highlighted some of the challenges facing the orientation camp and appealed for urgent intervention.
He reminded the governor of his promise to provide a 150KVA generaing the need for the reconstruction of the camp’s perimeter fence.
“The current fence is weak and inadequate which compromises the security of corps members. The incidents experienced during this orientation programme underscore the urgency of rebuilding the fence,” Mr. Kwaghe said.
