Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has assured residents that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration is building durable roads designed to stand the test of time and end years of failed repairs across the state.
Izeze gave the assurance on Thursday during inspection visits to key projects, including the reconstruction of Sokoh Estate Road off Airport Road in Effurun, the rehabilitation of Ughwrughelli/Erhidi roads, and the construction of Chief Lyn Ivie Akporiche Street in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
At Sokoh Estate Road, a 1,350-meter stretch notorious for flooding and erosion during the rainy season, the commissioner reaffirmed that the new road is being built with a lifespan of at least 20 years. He said the project would permanently end the nightmare residents had endured for decades.
“The Sheriff in town has come with a solution,” Izeze declared. “By December, the people will understand that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is truly a son of the soil who has finally delivered on Sokoh Estate Road.”
The commissioner praised the contractors for meeting specifications despite challenges posed by torrential rains and underground water, urging them to sustain quality and accelerate their pace. He also commended residents of Sokoh Estate and adjoining streets for their patience and cooperation, noting the absence of any harassment of workers.

“This governor is a governor of the streets with plenty of street credibility,” Izeze said. “People respect him and the new order. I thank the residents for creating the enabling environment for the contractors to work.”
On the Ughwrughelli/Erhidi and Agbarho projects, Izeze admitted that flooding had slowed progress in Ughwrughelli but directed contractors to double their efforts to meet the governor’s target. He stressed that the Agbarho road would be completed and inaugurated before the year ends, in line with Oborevwori’s promise.
With multiple projects ongoing across the state, the Oborevwori administration is positioning itself as one that prioritizes infrastructure built to last, with officials insisting that the era of failed repairs and substandard road works is over in Delta State.
