Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday unveiled a newly completed cluster of housing units and essential infrastructure in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area, signaling a new chapter for the once-devastated community.
The initiative, part of the state government’s broader plan to restore communities affected by crisis, follows the destruction of Okuama in March 2024 after the tragic killing of 17 soldiers. The commissioning represents a major step toward bringing displaced families back home and rebuilding their lives.
Represented by Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori described the project as a symbol of renewal and a demonstration of his administration’s resolve—under the MORE Agenda—to heal affected communities and restore confidence. He urged the people to embrace unity, peace, and collective progress.
He acknowledged that the events of 2024 left deep scars but emphasized that the state deliberately chose the path of reconciliation and rebuilding. According to him, the new housing facilities are more than physical structures—they represent hope and a restored sense of belonging for families who lost everything.
The Governor noted that the success of the project reflects what is possible when government, security agencies, and community stakeholders work together with sincerity and compassion. He assured residents that Okuama remains a priority for continued development.
