In a landmark move to uplift the most vulnerable, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will on Monday, August 18, 2025, officially launch the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme, a life-changing initiative targeting 10,000 beneficiaries across the state.
The highly anticipated flag-off ceremony will take place at the Dome Event Centre, Asaba, starting at 10:00 a.m., and is expected to draw a large crowd, including top government officials, women leaders, and social welfare advocates from every corner of Delta State.
Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment and Coordinator of the scheme, Chief Isioma Okonta, revealed that the programme is a core part of the Oborevwori administration’s mission to empower widows through direct financial assistance and sustainable empowerment packages. He stressed that the scheme is designed not just as a short-term relief plan, but as a long-term strategy to boost livelihoods and give widows the tools to achieve economic independence.
“This initiative is a direct response to the economic realities facing many widows today. It reflects Governor Oborevwori’s unwavering commitment to social investment, inclusive growth, and ensuring that no segment of society is left behind,” Okonta stated.
