Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is making bold strides in Delta State’s development, showing tangible progress in all sectors despite criticisms, the state government affirmed on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference in Asaba, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, highlighted the governor’s commitment to delivering on his promises. Flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, Aniagwu emphasized that Oborevwori’s approach to governance is action-driven, not rhetoric.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is responding to critics with projects, not words,” Aniagwu stated. “Last week, he led top government officials on an inspection tour across the three senatorial districts, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development.”

During the tour, Oborevwori inspected the twin Ubu bridges along the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, a crucial infrastructure that has significantly reduced travel time between Warri and Asaba. “The bridge is now complete, easing transportation and boosting economic activities in the state,” Aniagwu noted.

The governor also assessed progress on the Isoko Ring Road, a strategic project aimed at improving connectivity within the region. “He is determined to fast-track its completion, ensuring value for money and efficiency in execution,” Aniagwu said.

At the Southern Delta University, Ozoro, officials were impressed to see that the College of Health Sciences was nearing completion. “A full block is ready, and an additional block is under construction to enhance medical training facilities,” Aniagwu disclosed. Similarly, at the Orerokpe campus, major projects have been completed, and the campus is expected to be ready for students by September 2025.

Oborevwori’s administration is also prioritizing education as a tool for fighting insecurity. The Omadino Technical College in Warri South is set to open in September, reinforcing the governor’s belief that empowering youths through education will curb crime.

In the health sector, the governor is delivering on his promise to equip key hospitals with modern diagnostic tools. “Governor Oborevwori has approved the installation of CT scanners at the Central Hospital, Warri, Asaba Specialist Hospital, and the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara,” Aniagwu revealed.

The tour also covered critical infrastructure projects in Warri, including the ongoing stormwater drainage system at Warri Township Stadium and the three flyovers being handled by construction giant, Julius Berger. “The work is progressing speedily, and Governor Oborevwori is ensuring timely payments to keep the projects on track,” Aniagwu said.

The government is also intervening in the 47km Ohoror-Bomadi Road, rehabilitating 30km of the stretch. Other road projects, including the Edo Road in Ughelli, were also inspected, further proving that development under Oborevwori is widespread and impactful.

Beyond infrastructure, Governor Oborevwori has also played a crucial role in resolving long-standing conflicts. Over the weekend, he successfully brokered peace between the Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities, which had been locked in a bitter land dispute. “Both communities have agreed to a peaceful resolution, and the state government has approved the construction of the Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh Road to strengthen ties,” Aniagwu announced.

In a strong warning to contractors, the governor has made it clear that companies failing to deliver quality projects on time will not receive new contracts. “Any contractor with multiple jobs who cannot meet deadlines with quality execution should forget about getting new projects,” Aniagwu stated.

Despite opposition criticisms, Aniagwu assured that Governor Oborevwori remains undistracted and committed to governance. “We will not confuse politics with governance. More projects will be approved in the next Executive Council meeting, further cementing Delta’s development trajectory,” he concluded.
