Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has officially presented the staff of office to Prof. Epiphany Azinge, the newly crowned Asagba of Asaba, in a ceremony that underscored the cultural heritage and unity of the Asaba kingdom.
The event held on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Royal Palace, was attended by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Monday Oyeme, top government officials, dignitaries, royal fathers, and a large assembly of excited indigenes.
Gov. Oborevwori praised the Asaba kingdom’s tradition of producing exceptional leaders, highlighting the legacy of the late Prof. Chike Edozien and expressing confidence in the ability of Prof. Azinge to lead the kingdom into a new era of progress.
“Prof. Azinge is a consensus builder and a thoughtful leader whose urbane outlook and statesmanlike qualities are essential for fostering peace and development in a kingdom as diverse as Asaba. Under his leadership, I am confident the kingdom will achieve new heights of progress and unity,” he stated.
Also, the governor reiterated the vital role of traditional rulers in governance, especially in grassroot mobilization and community development, assuring the new monarch of his administration’s partnership in promoting peace and prosperity across the kingdom and Delta State.
Gov. Oborevwori further called on the people of Asaba, to support their new monarch wholeheartedly and resist any attempts to cause division within the kingdom.

He also stressed the importance of vigilance in maintaining the city’s security as Asaba continues to grow as a hub for families and businesses.
Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Obi Ezenyili, described Prof. Azinge’s selection as the 14th Asagba of Asaba as a reflection of his remarkable contributions to the kingdom, state and nation.
Ezenyili stated that “your emergence is a testament to your hard work and immense contributions, not just in Asaba but across Nigeria and beyond. The entire council and the people of Oshimili South pledge our unwavering support and solidarity to you, and we will continue to work and pray for the success of your reign.”
The council boss further expressed confidence that Prof. Azinge’s leadership would propel the Asaba Kingdom forward, given his wealth of experience and accomplishments in life.
Highlight of the ceremony was the formal presentation of the staff of office to the new traditional ruler.
