Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has appealed for calm amid rising tensions between Itsekiri and Urhobo communities in Warri South Local Government Area.
The governor, in a statement issued on Saturday through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, urged residents, community leaders, and stakeholders in the oil-rich city to shun violence and avoid any act capable of disrupting the fragile peace in the region.
Oborevwori stressed that Warri holds massive economic potential that can only be fully unlocked in an atmosphere of peace and stability. He reassured residents that his administration is committed to revitalising infrastructure in the city, describing peace as the bedrock for sustainable development.
“We appeal to all stakeholders to support our efforts in revitalising infrastructure in Warri and avoid all acts capable of truncating the current peace in the oil-rich city,” the governor said.

He called on traditional rulers, youth groups, and opinion leaders to work collectively in promoting unity, understanding, and peaceful coexistence among ethnic groups in Delta State. According to him, inclusive governance and equitable development remain central to his administration’s agenda, ensuring no group feels sidelined.
Governor Oborevwori also assured that security agencies have been fully mobilised to maintain law and order, warning against any attempt by troublemakers to exploit ethnic sentiments.
The governor’s call comes amid heightened concerns over clashes in Warri, a city often described as the economic heartbeat of Delta State due to its oil and gas wealth. His intervention is expected to douse tensions and reassure investors and residents of the government’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and businesses.
