Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Delta born billionaire, Olorogun ogun Oscar Ibru, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the Urhobo nation, Delta State, and Nigeria at large.
The Nigeria’s business and philanthropic community was thrown into mourning on Wednesday, 24th September, 2025, following the death of billionaire industrialist and philanthropist, Olorogun Oscar Ibru, after a brief illness at the age of 67.
Confirming the news, family sources said the chairman of the Ibru Organisation and scion of the famous Ibru dynasty died on Wednesday.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the Governor commiserated with the Ibru family of Agbarha-Otor, the Urhobo people, and the state, noting that Olorogun Ibru lived a life of service, industry, and philanthropy.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Ibru family, the Urhobo nation, and indeed Nigerians on the passing of Olorogun Oscar Ibru. He was a remarkable son of Delta who distinguished himself in business and philanthropy, and his demise is a great loss not only to his family and the Urhobo nation but to our entire state and country,” Oborevwori stated.

Born in 1957, Oscar Ibru was the eldest son of the late industrialist, Michael Ibru. Over the years, he expanded the Ibru Organisation’s reach into critical sectors, including shipping, agriculture, aviation, oil and gas, and real estate.
A graduate of the London School of Economics, Ibru carved out his own legacy as a visionary entrepreneur, a patron of the arts, and a philanthropist, with a special focus on education and healthcare.
Governor Oborevwori recalled that through the Ibru Organisation, Oscar Ibru built strong economic institutions, created employment opportunities for thousands, and supported community development across Delta and Nigeria.
Tributes have continued to pour in from business leaders, political figures, and cultural icons who described Ibru’s passing as the end of an era.
Oborevwori prayed for the repose of his soul and urged the Ibru family to take solace in the enduring legacy of love, generosity, and enterprise he left behind.
Oscar Ibru is survived by his wife, children, and extended family.
