Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State made a strong statement on Wednesday as he toured the exhibition hall of the 16th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) in Macao, China, expressing firm support for transformative waste-to-energy (WTE) solutions.

The globally renowned infrastructure forum, now in its 16th year, brought together world leaders, investors, and policymakers under one roof to explore sustainable technologies that are reshaping global development. Governor Oborevwori’s presence at the forum shows his administration’s growing commitment to international partnerships and the implementation of eco-friendly innovations back home in Nigeria.

During the tour, the Governor explored various exhibits showcasing advanced infrastructure and renewable technologies, with particular emphasis on innovative WTE systems capable of converting municipal waste into clean, reliable power. These groundbreaking technologies promise dual benefits, solving urban waste problems while generating alternative energy to reduce pressure on traditional power sources.

Oborevwori, accompanied by Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, and Technical Assistant Engineer Bob Nakpodia, took time to engage with global exhibitors and experts demonstrating next-generation energy conversion plants, smart waste segregation tools, and scalable clean-energy grids. The Governor was visibly impressed with the potential these innovations hold for states like Delta that are seeking smarter ways to manage waste and improve energy access.

According to Oborevwori, the WTE models on display offer promising solutions not only for environmental sustainability but also for long-term economic growth, especially in regions facing increasing urbanization and waste disposal challenges. He described the Macao exhibition as an eye-opener and a blueprint for strategic investment in green infrastructure, stating that Delta State is positioning itself to lead Nigeria in clean energy adoption.

He added that the strides Macao has made in waste infrastructure and sustainability offer important lessons for developing economies. Oborevwori emphasized his readiness to partner with international firms and technology providers to replicate such successes in Delta, where both urban and rural communities can benefit from modern waste conversion systems.

As a special guest at the IIICF, Governor Oborevwori is part of a high-level delegation of global leaders and influencers exploring new models of infrastructure investment. His engagements in Macao reflect a broader agenda of attracting international attention and funding to key sectors of Delta’s economy, particularly renewable energy, waste management, and climate-resilient infrastructure.

With Nigeria facing mounting pressure to diversify its energy sources and reduce environmental pollution, Governor Oborevwori’s proactive stance on WTE innovation is likely to spark interest across the country. By aligning with international standards and emerging technologies, the Delta State Government signals a clear commitment to sustainable development and a cleaner future for its citizens.
