Businessman Obi Cubana has declared that his biological son, Alex is his next of kin, dismissing the claim made by his adopted son, Chidi, in a TikTok video that has gone viral.

Chidi had posted a video on April 22, 2025, where he referred to himself as Obi Cubana’s official heir.

Responding to the claim, Obi Cubana shared a photo on Instagram featuring his biological son, Alex, with a caption that hinted at Alex being his real next of kin.

He called Alex “ancient and modern, eyes on the ball,” and included a playful mention of Chidi as “next of kin.”

To further clarify his feelings, Obi Cubana commented on another post that Alex is his “original next-of-kin.”

This public exchange caused quite a stir online, with many people criticizing Obi Cubana for not addressing the situation privately with Chidi, instead of airing it out for everyone to see.

Comments varied, with some social media users arguing that Chidi was simply engaging in light-hearted fun, while others felt that Obi Cubana’s response was not the best approach to resolve the situation

Concerns were raised about the implications of Chidi’s claim, particularly regarding the societal views on family and kinship, with one commenter pointing out the lack of consideration for the potential long-term effects of such public declarations.

@tobyasky said: “All the hard work and years of care can be shattered with what Obi Cubana did in my opinion.

“He’s just made the boy realise that despite him taking him as his son, he’s still not his son. These teens do rubbish trends over social media, he should have just told him to delete it.”

@gladsy_onyetem said: “A child that was just doing a harmless video, una don reason plenty things put, na wah for una ooo…

“Una even dey say na adopted child; I thought that’s his brother’s child? Una don project una wicked family negativity on this innocent video…. Una go dey find village ppl, na una.”

@soyecatering said: “I don’t think he thought of the consequences in the long run. This wasn’t the best way to address it sha.

“But even thinking about being the next of kin now, simply means Obi has to be unalive or old enough to not be able to run things. Abeg I’m tired of buying fuel, how do we reduce fuel price in this country?”

@perrybtc said: “Play foolish games win foolish prizes! There’s nothing cool about claiming next of kin even if you are one or as cruise, wisdom demands you avoid certain behaviors knowing where you come from.”
