The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi has applauded Abdullahi Ganduje for stepping down as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State, announced his resignation in a letter sent to the party’s National Working Committee through the party’s National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Bashiru, on Friday.
He mentioned that health issues played a significant role in his decision to resign.
Obi expressed his thoughts on the matter in a message posted on social media.

He stated that he had seen news about Ganduje’s resignation and praised him for putting his health first.
Obi said: “Given that his health is reported to be getting worse, it was wise and honourable for him to step down.
“It shows that he recognises he can’t serve the party, the people, and the country as he once did.”
Also, he noted that Ganduje’s decision should inspire other leaders who are facing health problems and may not be able to fulfill their duties effectively.
He hopes they will follow Ganduje’s example.
Obi emphasised that Nigeria needs leaders who are capable, healthy, and ready to tackle urgent issues, instead of being preoccupied with personal health struggles or frequent absences due to age.
Obi added that such challenges are seriously hindering the country’s progress.
He concluded by wishing Ganduje a peaceful and happy retirement.
