A second-year student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, David Adefesobi, has initiated a N15 million lawsuit against a female student who wrongfully accused him of rape.
The legal action is coming after the accuser, Adeife, publicly apologized and retracted her claim.
A letter from Adefesobi’s legal representatives said the female student allegedly made the accusation on February 17, 2026, and shared his phone number on social media platforms, including WhatsApp.
The lawyers characterized the accusation as completely false, malicious, and reckless, asserting that it subjected Adefesobi to public disdain, mockery, and contempt, severely harming his reputation and integrity among family, peers, professional associates, and the general public.
The legal team pointed out that the false allegation resulted in the loss of business contracts and opportunities, ongoing online harassment, threats, and significant emotional distress.

They emphasized that the continued sharing of screenshots and reposts has worsened the damage to his reputation.
Although Adeife issued an apology on video, the harm caused by her initial claim cannot be reversed merely by a retraction.
Adefesobi’s attorneys have demanded that Adeife provide a written and public apology acknowledging that her allegation was false.
They also requested the immediate removal of all defamatory content from all platforms and a written commitment that no further defamatory statements will be made.
Furthermore, they are seeking N15 million in damages for defamation, emotional distress, and damage to reputation.
The letter warns that if these demands are not met within 14 days, legal action will be pursued, including claims for aggravated damages, injunctive relief, and any other remedies available under the law.
