The Nigeria Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has begun the payment of the long awaited N77,000 monthly allowance to corps members.
In the wake of the implementation of the new national wage, the federal government had in September 2024, increased the monthly allowance from N33,000 to N77,000.
However, corps members have waited expectantly for the commencement of the payments, with the NYSC management given assurances that the enhanced allowance would be paid in spite the delay.
The NYSC Director General, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, assured agitated corps members that the new monthly allowance of N77,000 will be implemented starting March 2025.
Brig. Gen. Nafiu gave the assurance during an interactive session with corps members at the Wuse and Garki NYSC Zonal Offices in Abuja.

He reaffirmed the commitment of both the NYSC and the federal government to the welfare of corps members.
In the statement signed by the acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC said the approval of N77,000 was contained in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta, in line with the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (amendment) Act, 2024.
