Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has strongly denounced the killing of the traditional ruler of Ishinkwo Community in Onicha Local Government Area, Eze Josephat Ikegwu, describing the act as cruel and a serious threat to the state’s peace and unity.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, on Thursday evening. The governor has directed the state’s security agencies to urgently investigate the incident and uncover those responsible for the monarch’s death.
Expressing his grief, the governor said he was deeply pained by the tragic loss of the royal father.
“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal and senseless killing of His Royal Highness, Ezeogo Josephat Ikegwu of Ishinkwo Community in Onicha Local Government Area,” he said.
He added that the killing represents not only an attack on a respected traditional institution but also a blow to the harmony and shared values of Ebonyi State.

Nwifuru extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Ishinkwo, and the entire Onicha LGA, noting that he is awaiting detailed security reports on the incident.
“I sympathize with the family of the deceased monarch, the people of Ishinkwo Community, and all residents of Onicha Local Government Area over this painful loss,” he stated.
The governor reassured residents that his administration would not tolerate acts of violence and is taking firm steps to restore peace across the state.
“We will not remain passive in the face of such wicked acts. Concrete measures have already been put in place to tackle the rising insecurity and ensure lasting peace in Ebonyi,” he said.
He further disclosed that security operatives have been deployed and instructed to track down the perpetrators and ensure they face justice.
Reaffirming his stance on accountability, Nwifuru stressed that no individual or group would be shielded if found involved, regardless of their status.
“Human life is sacred and cannot be compromised. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly, no matter their position or influence,” he said.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and social stability, noting that these remain essential for development.
“Peace and security are the foundation for progress. Without them, there can be no meaningful development or future,” he added.
He also urged traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, and security agencies to work together in maintaining peace and unity across the state.
