The national volleyball championship for divisions 1 and 2, organized by the Nigerian Volleyball Federation, has taken a new direction in tree planting.
The competition, which began on August 16, featured around 35 teams competing in both divisions.
Beyond just the sport, the event highlighted the importance of tree planting.
Musa Nimrod, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, expressed his satisfaction with the level of competition in the recently concluded 2025 National Division I & II Volleyball League.
He pointed out the urgent need for tree planting to combat the environmental threats posed by deforestation and desertification. “Gully erosion is rampant, and we are degrading our land due to the lack of trees.
Wherever there is a volleyball court, we should ensure a tree is planted nearby,” Musa stated.
The chairman also commended the Nigerian Customs for their significant investment in sports, which he credited as a key factor in the success of the 2025 National Division I & II Volleyball League.
In the finals held at the Abuja National Stadium, the Defence Spikers showcased their impressive form, winning decisively against their opponents in straight sets.
On the final day of the championship, the team triumphed 2-0.
