The national secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has dismissed the allegations leveled against the 3- member credential commitee mandated to conduct elections in the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the union.
In a letter signed by the NUJ National Secretary, Achike Chude, the national secretariat identified the 3-member committee as the authentic credentials committee members with the mandate to conduct the election.
“We have carefully gone through the petitions against Mr. Henry Umoru and Sarah Odugbo with regard to their membership of the FCT credentials committee and noted the various allegations against them by Messrs Osaretin Osadebamwen, John Chuks Onuayim, and Victoson Agbenson. The petitions were written and delivered separately.
“A careful investigation of the complaints made against the duo did not produce any evidence to substantiate the allegations against them and the subsequent call for their disqualification from the credentials committee set up to supervise the FCT council election.

“The allegations against them were without merit. Consequently, in reiteration of our earlier directive, Mr. Henry Umoru, Sarah Odugbo and Elizabeth Christopher Atteh are to resume their duties unhindered as members of the credetials committee. Kindly assist them in this process with the enabling environment to make the exercise a success.
“The committee is to liaise with the national secretariat going forward,” the letter said.
It would be recalled that the embattled Patrick Osaretin Osadebamwen had petitioned Mrs. Sarah Odugbo, alleging that her chapel failed to remit their check-off dues and based on this, she was unqualified to serve on the credentials committee.
However, the NUJ national secretariat dismissed the claim as false, declaring that Odugbo’s chapel had remitted N315,000 into the coffers of the union.
