The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Isoko Chapel, has called on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to urgently expedite action on the long-delayed 33-kilovolt power transmission line from Ughelli to Ozoro, warning that the prolonged blackout across Isoko land is crippling socio-economic activities.
The call was made in a communiqué issued at the end of the Chapel’s most recent congress, held at the Chapel Press Centre in Oleh, Delta State.
According to the communiqué, the activation of the 33kv electricity project would significantly improve economic productivity, boost small businesses, and enhance the overall quality of life of residents across Isoko communities.
The congress also expressed concern over what it described as the continued marginalisation of Isoko Nation in Delta State budgetary allocations, despite the passage and signing into law of the 2026 Delta State budget.
While acknowledging past neglect, the NUJ said it hoped the trend would be reversed, insisting that Isoko Nation deserves equitable consideration in project allocation in recognition of its status as a major oil- and gas-producing area in the state.

The communiqué further condemned the poor execution and abandonment of road and infrastructure projects across Isoko land, describing the situation as unacceptable and detrimental to development.
The union demanded stricter government oversight of contractors, urging relevant authorities to impose sanctions on erring firms and ensure that future projects are executed to durable standards that can stand the test of time.
The document was jointly signed by the Chairman of NUJ Isoko Chapel, Comrade Solomon Akora, and the Secretary, Comrade Matthew Unyove.
Commending efforts in the area of security, the congress praised the Isoko North and Isoko South Local Government Councils, alongside security agencies, for maintaining relative peace in the communities, while calling for sustained and intensified efforts to preserve stability.
As the harmattan season approaches, the union also urged governments at all levels, as well as community leadership including Presidents-General, to renew public enlightenment campaigns against bush burning, citing the risks such practices pose to lives, property, and the environment.
In a related development, the NUJ Isoko Chapel congratulated the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in both Isoko North and Isoko South on the successful conduct of their recent executive elections, expressing optimism for a strong and cordial working relationship between the two unions.
