The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Council, will on Thursday, December 4, commemorate the one-year stewardship of the Comrade Grace Ike–led executive with a dual event that also features the official groundbreaking for the remodelling of the Council Hall in Utako.
The ceremony, scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the NUJ FCT Secretariat, forms a central highlight of the administration’s reform agenda encapsulated in its slogan, “One Voice, New Era.” The leadership says the phrase underscores its focus on institutional renewal, welfare enhancement and infrastructural transformation.
In a notice to members, NUJ FCT Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, described the groundbreaking as a milestone in efforts to modernise the union’s secretariat, enhance professional output and create a more functional work environment for journalists within the capital.

According to the statement, the remodelling is envisioned as a legacy initiative of the Ike administration, designed to reposition the secretariat as a standard hub for media engagement, professional development and advocacy.
Members have been encouraged to attend in large numbers, with the council noting that the event represents both a moment of reflection on achievements so far and the launch of a new phase of infrastructural renewal.
“The presence of members will be greatly appreciated as we embark on this significant stage of growth and transformation,” Oyekunle added.
