The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Margaret Oguntala, has emphasized the necessity of international collaboration to enhance engineering practices, especially in the realms of sustainable development and climate change mitigation.
This was stated in a release from the NSE on Wednesday at the opening of the 2025 Global Engineering Congress and World Federation of Engineering Organisations General Assembly, taking place at the Shanghai Expo Centre in China.
The event is co-hosted by the World Federation of Engineering Organisations, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.
Scheduled from October 12 to 17, the congress, themed ‘Engineering shapes a green future,’ will concentrate on the crucial role of engineering technologies in combating climate change, promoting green economic growth, developing a sustainable and human-centered global framework, and improving human well-being.
In her statement, Ms. Oguntala underscored the significant contributions of Nigerian engineers on the international stage.
She noted that the involvement of Nigeria’s engineers in such a prestigious event reflects the country’s dedication to innovation and engineering excellence.
Oguntala called for engineering professionals worldwide to unite in addressing urgent issues such as climate change, sustainable development, and the challenges brought about by technological advancements.
The event, chaired by WFEO President, Mustafa Shehu, gathered leading engineers from across the globe to discuss engineering challenges and potential solutions.
