The Bayelsa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reaffirmed its mandate to protect critical infrastructure despite the death of its personnel in the state.
NSCDC Commandant in the state, Eweka Douglas, stated this on Tuesday in Yenagoa, in the wake of the killing of its officer attached to Tantita Surveillance Security Services.
He said the murder of the NSCDC officer in Igbomotoru community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state will spur the command to intensify the clampdown on vandals.
Douglas disclosed that the incident occurred at about 2:30 pm on April 10, 2025, while the joint patrol team was returning from an operation, when the team was ambushed.

“The NSCDC as the leading agency in the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure in the nation will not be deterred by any attack by vandals whose aim is to sabotage the efforts of the government in eradicating bunkering activities in the Niger Delta.
“The NSCDC high command commends the courage and resilience of the combined team despite the ambush of the team. A manhunt has been launched for the assailants to bring them to book,” he added.
The commandant said the remains of the slain officer, Victor Ibang has been deposited at the morgue.
He assured that the necessary rites and benefits of the deceased officer will be accorded to the late Ibang in due course.
