The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 17 suspects in Yobe State for allegedly vandalizing electrical power installations, telecommunications masts, and other vital assets. Commandant AS Dandaura of the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad led the operation under the directive of NSCDC Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who declared zero tolerance for vandalism and economic sabotage.
The crackdown follows a series of targeted operations aimed at dismantling networks of criminals responsible for destroying telecommunications equipment, power transmission gadgets, rail infrastructure, and pipeline assets. Acting on credible intelligence, the NSCDC team raided three separate warehouses in Damaturu believed to be storage facilities for vandalized materials. The first facility was uncovered at Pilgrim Nassarawa Bypass, the second behind New Market at Dujiya, and the third at Abari Bypass. The meticulously planned operation, which spanned several hours, led to the arrest of 17 individuals directly at the crime scene.
In addition to the arrests, the NSCDC has launched a manhunt for the suspected kingpin, Aliyu Ajakuta, who is allegedly the chairman of the local Scrap Dealers Association. Recovered exhibits from the warehouses include telecom masts, Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), cabinet metal bags of armoured cables, large quantities of rail track slippers, solar panels, batteries, and ware pipes.
