The Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) celebrated its 59th anniversary by distributing essential food items and cash to 100 widows and orphans in Navy Town, Lagos State.
The anniversary celebration, led by Mrs. Josephine Oamen, Chairperson of the Western Naval Command NOWA chapter, saw beneficiaries receive items such as rice, spaghetti, and vegetable oil. This annual outreach is a cornerstone of NOWA’s efforts to uplift vulnerable members of the community and instill hope for a brighter future.
Speaking during the event, Mrs. Oamen highlighted the importance of the outreach initiative.
“Every year, we carry out this program to support widows and orphans, encouraging them to live life to the fullest despite their challenges. Through these efforts, we aim to give them hope and strengthen their resolve to sustain themselves,” she said.

The Lagos event ran concurrently with celebrations at NOWA Headquarters in Abuja, led by the association’s national president, Mrs. Ijeoma Ogalla. Activities began on Friday with a Jumat service at the Western Command and culminated in the distribution of aid.
Adding to the day’s significance, Dr. Aisha Oladejo, CEO of Sanda Natural Clinic, emphasized the importance of mental health for widows. Speaking to attendees, she urged them to prioritize their well-being to ensure they can adequately care for their children and face life’s challenges with resilience.
