Nottingham Forest has launched discussions with former Wolves manager Vitor Pereira following the club’s decision to part ways with Sean Dyche just 114 days into his tenure.

The Premier League side played to a goalless draw at home against bottom-placed Wolves on Wednesday, leaving them three points clear of the relegation zone with 12 matches remaining in the season. Sources cited by BBC Sport indicate Pereira is a leading contender to replace Dyche, having previously worked with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis at Olympiacos in Greece.

Pereira, 57, is credited with helping Wolves secure Premier League survival last season after joining mid-term, although he was dismissed in November when the team had only two points from their opening ten games.

Dyche’s departure marks Forest’s fourth permanent head coach this season, following the brief stints of Ange Postecoglou in October and Nuno Espirito Santo in September. A club statement read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can announce that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach. We thank Sean and his staff for their contributions during their time at the club and wish them the best in the future. No further comments will be made at this time.”

Postecoglou’s tenure lasted just 39 days, replacing Nuno, who was dismissed after three matches. Dyche took charge with Forest in 18th place, having won only one of their first eight games. Despite losing 2-0 to Bournemouth in his debut, he guided the team to four wins and one draw in seven matches, lifting them out of immediate relegation danger. A subsequent run of four consecutive defeats was offset by a four-game unbeaten streak, including a 2-1 victory over struggling West Ham and a goalless draw against league leaders Arsenal.

Nevertheless, Forest remains embroiled in a relegation battle as Leeds United and West Ham continue to climb the table.

In European action, Forest finished 13th in their Europa League group but advanced to the knockout stage with four wins, two draws, and two losses. They are set to face Turkish side Fenerbahce in a two-legged tie this month, starting Thursday, February 19, for a spot in the Round of 16.

Domestically, Forest has already exited both cup competitions. They lost 3-2 to Swansea in the EFL Cup third round under Postecoglou and were eliminated from the FA Cup on penalties by Championship side Wrexham last month under Dyche.
