The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, has issued a directive, advising residents to notify the police before embarking on camping and hiking within the territory.
This measure, according to the police, is aimed at ensuring the safety of hikers and campers, amid prevailing security concerns.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adwale, who issued the directive, emphasized the need for individuals, youth groups, and organizations to inform the police before undertaking such outdoor activities.
He warned that failure to do so poses significant security risks, as remote or unsecured locations could be vulnerable to criminal activities.
“The police must be informed before any camping or hiking activity takes place. This will allow us to provide guidance on safe routes and necessary security measures,” Adwale stated.
The command advised the public to liaise with security operatives to receive expert advice on intended locations, ensure proper monitoring, and minimize risks.
