Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State, has urged stakeholders in the transportation and petroleum industries to implement stricter safety measures in the handling and transportation of flammable materials.
Gov. Yahaya, made the call in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday in Gombe by his Director-General (Press Affairs), Ismaila Misilli, while expressing deep sorrow over the recent fuel tanker explosion at Dikko Junction in Niger State.
The explosion claimed numerous lives and left many injured, prompting widespread grief and solidarity.

In the statement made on behalf of the northern governors, Gov. Yahaya emphasized the devastating impact of such accidents on families and the nation as a whole.
“This tragic incident at Dikko Junction is heartbreaking and has plunged families and the nation into anguish.
“On behalf of the northern governors, I extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Niger State. We stand in solidarity with you and share in your grief,” the governor said.
He commended Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago and emergency response agencies for their swift action in mitigating the effects of the tragedy.
Gov. Yahaya prayed for the souls of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to advocating for policies that prioritize public safety and provide support to victims of such incidents.
