Reasons, why the northeast geopolitical zone should be given the privilege of producing the next President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) have been given.

The National Deputy President of the Association, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo, who yesterday reeled out the reasons during an interactive session with media practitioners in Jalingo, Taraba state, said since the establishment of SWAN on February 1, 1964, the zone has not ascended the number position of the association.

Moyoyo, who also use the interactive session to declare his interest in the number position of SWAN, beckoned the International Sports Press Association to help in ensuring the success of the forthcoming delegate conference.

“Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states” according to him “have not produced a President of SWAN” adding that “It is, therefore logical that we go in for the number one seat from the second seat.”

Apart from the AIPS Africa and the AIP International whom, he urged to help ensure the success of the election, the need for the National Executive Committee of the association to throw their weight behind the zone, Taraba particular to produce the next SWAN President, he believed can no longer be overemphasized.

Vehemently seeking the support of the NEC and the state executive committee, he believed that it is ” logical to maintain and consolidate on the past gains with a view of laying solid foundation for the growth and future progress of SWAN.”

The state chapter of the association, it would be recalled recently beckoned at the incumbent Deputy National President to throw his heart in the ring by joining the queue of those seeking to succeed the association’s president, Honor Sirawoo.

Accepting the call, people, as made known by him, erroneously “have this misconception that Taraba state is a rural backwater, and therefore nothing good will come out of it.”

Set to dispel this myth and misconception, Moyoyo who said he is ready and willing to step into the shoe of the incumbent President of the association whose tenure is gradually coming to an end, said “but let me haste to say that such misconception should be given away because Taraba has come to age.”

Affirming that it is “logical that we ( Northeast) go in for the number one seat from the second seat” delegate conference the region and the country at large, he pleaded should rally round him to fly high the banner of SWAN in Nigeria and the globe at large.
