The North West Development Commission (NWDC) has officially cancelled its previously announced foreign scholarship scheme, a move which aligned with the Federal Government’s new education policy. The commission confirmed that all ongoing applications for the international education initiative have been suspended.
This development comes on the heels of a national directive issued on May 7, 2025, by the Federal Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations. The directive urges government institutions and agencies to shift focus from foreign academic programs and instead invest in building robust local education systems across Nigeria.
According to a brief statement released by the NWDC, the decision to withdraw the scholarship opportunity is in full compliance with the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to revitalizing indigenous academic institutions and boosting national capacity development.
