Movie producer Stanley Ajemba, widely known as Stanley Ontop, announced the tragic passing of beloved Nollywood actress Nkechi Nweje on Saturday, sharing his sorrow on Instagram alongside her photo. He expressed his disbelief, stating that the loss felt surreal and referred to her affectionately as “Ezigbo Nwanyi Onitsha.”
Stanley reminisced about their close friendship, recalling her supportive advice during challenging times, particularly mentioning their last conversation during the Queenth saga.
Fellow actress Rita Edochie posted a candlelit tribute on Instagram with the poignant message, “This world is really not our home.” Other stars, including Destiny Etiko and Anita Joseph, also shared their heartfelt tributes.

He wrote, “Nollywood in tears as we lost one of our vibrant Nollywood actresses, @nkechi.nweje, after a brief illness.
“Couldn’t post since morning because it was like a dream to me. Ezigbo Nwanyi Onitsha. Rest in peace, ma’am.
“My best friend, she always called me on the phone, advising me. The last time we spoke was during the Queenth saga. She said, ‘Ontop, stop.’ I’m still speechless.”
