The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has kicked off a nationwide sensitisation campaign aimed at boosting citizens’ participation in governance, strengthening national security awareness, and promoting community vigilance.
The initiative was flagged off in Damaturu, Yobe State, on Friday, where the state director of NOA, Muhammad Tikau, disclosed that the campaign would span all 17 local government areas in the state and focus on five key thematic areas. These include re-orientation of national values among students and youths, sensitisation on government policies and programmes, disaster preparedness and flood mitigation, promotion of Nigerian identity and national symbols, as well as community-driven security awareness.
Tikau explained that the outreach would be delivered through grassroots channels such as town-hall meetings, roadshows, school visits, market rallies, and radio programmes. He commended Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration for achievements in agriculture, healthcare, road construction, water supply, and entrepreneurship, stressing that NOA’s role was to mobilise citizens to take full advantage of these initiatives. He also appealed to the media to amplify the campaign while urging residents to take ownership of the project to build a safer, united Yobe.

Representing the Director-General of NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the agency’s Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Nura Kobi, said the enlightenment drive was designed to bring government closer to the people and improve citizens’ understanding of ongoing reforms. He revealed that NOA has expanded its communication platforms with tools such as the Weekly Explainer e-journal, social media outreach, and Artificial Intelligence-driven engagement to reach younger demographics and simplify complex government policies.
Issa-Onilu also highlighted key programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Conditional Cash Transfer, National Youth Investment Fund, and the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund, describing them as transformative opportunities that citizens should embrace.
On national security, the NOA boss stressed that awareness at the community level remained critical to peacebuilding, citing the federal government’s investment in rapid-response military units, surveillance technology, and deployment of new security personnel nationwide. He also warned that communities must take flood mitigation seriously, as funds had already been released to states for drainage clearance and disaster preparedness.
The campaign, which will run across the country, is expected to reinforce citizens’ sense of identity, deepen trust in government policies, and encourage grassroots involvement in national development.
