The Adamawa State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a flood alert, urging residents especially those in flood-prone and low-lying areas to brace for heavy rainfall and potential flooding in the coming days.

The advisory follows recent predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), which forecast intense rainfall across Adamawa and other northern states.

Speaking on the development, the NOA State Director, Mr. Richard Bala Dangari, warned that the situation could lead to significant damage if not properly addressed.

“Flooding can cause severe destruction if preventive measures are not taken in time. We advise early evacuation for at-risk households and the immediate clearing of blocked drainage systems to reduce impact,” Dangari stated.

The agency called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, community heads, and local safety groups to help spread flood preparedness messages and support government-led safety initiatives.

Residents are advised to: void dumping refuse in water channels or obstructing drainage routes, stay updated through official forecasts and announcements from NiMet, NEMA, and relocate promptly from flood-prone areas when advised.

Reiterating the importance of coordinated efforts, NOA’s Head of Media and Communication, Mrs. Manugarcha Daniel, emphasized, “Timely information saves lives. Collective action is key to protecting our communities.”

The NOA pledged continued collaboration with emergency agencies and the media to ensure effective public sensitization.
