The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on voluntary organizations across Nigeria to take a frontline role in promoting civic responsibility and national values as essential pillars of national development.

Speaking at a one-day stakeholders’ workshop held at the NOA headquarters in Abuja, the Director-General of the agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by Dr. Olukemi Afolayan, Director of Civic Values and Democracy Education, emphasized that the nation’s progress depends not only on policies and governance but on the active participation of citizens in upholding core values.

The workshop themed around civic responsibility, brought together key para-military and voluntary groups including the NOA Citizens Brigade, Boys Scout Association, Girls Guide, Royal Ambassadors, Man O War, and others.

Issa-Onilu highlighted the role of the organizations in promoting peace, unity, voter education, and public accountability, especially at the grassroots level.

He disclosed that the national orientation committee has launched several initiatives, notably the national identity project, and announced that President Bola Tinubu is set to unveil the national values charter, aimed at reinforcing national ethics and civic engagement.

“Voluntary groups have historically driven community development, moral reawakening, and civic action. This workshop marks a renewed partnership for deeper collaboration and grassroots mobilization,” the director general stated.

Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Ayisola Olowoyo, the NOA Director of Human Resources Management, commended participants for their commitment to national service, while Rhodas Sardus led a session on the practical application of the national values charter in local communities.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with voluntary groups to build a more united, responsible, and value-driven Nigeria.
