The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, says during his tenure, there will be zero tolerance for indiscipline, including admission racketeering and fraudulent NYSC mobilization.
He is also prepared to challenge conventions, and, where necessary, take firm actions to realize his objectives.
Speaking during his official investiture ceremony at the university campus, Prof.Offiong, added that the central admissions committee will be reactivated immediately and will adhere to JAMB’s admission protocols.
To students, he asked them to embrace their time in the university meaningfully and strive to be their best assuring the of his support with conducive environment to realize their full potential.
He said that over the next five years, the university will eliminate the conditions that enable extortion and other abuses stating that it will not be business as usual and there will be no sacred cows.

Prof. Offiong added that his investiture, lies not in celebrating an individual but in reaffirming the university’s enduring mission to pursue excellence in teaching and learning, promote research, innovation, and positively impact the community.
“This mission will be pursued vigorously, fairly, firmly and fearlessly over the next five years guided by our core values which are pursuit of truth, academic freedom, commitment to service, openness and transparency, he further said.
He maintained that he will pursue this vision through academic excellence, research and innovation, students’ experience and welfare, as well as the vice-chancellor’s scholarship programme to encourage competition.
