Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has pledged that no ethnic nationality in the state will be sidelined under his administration, reaffirming his commitment to inclusive governance, peace, and equitable development across all communities.
Speaking on Wednesday at Obotebe I community during the 20th coronation anniversary of the Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Capt. King Joseph Timiyan (PhD), Torububou I, the Governor described the milestone as “a historic celebration of visionary leadership and cultural unity.”
Oborevwori hailed the monarch, who also chairs the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers Forum, for two decades of purposeful reign marked by peace, stability, and progress in Ogulagha Kingdom. He said the King’s leadership had strengthened the relationship between traditional institutions and government, especially in the area of equity and fairness for oil-producing communities.
“Two decades on the throne represent not just the passage of time, but the steady growth of vision and responsibility. Your Majesty has led with grace, wisdom, and a deep sense of duty to your people,” the Governor said.
Describing Ogulagha as one of the most productive oil-bearing communities in the Niger Delta, Oborevwori stressed that his government recognizes the region’s vital role in Delta’s economy. He assured the people that his administration remains committed to the development of riverine and rural communities often neglected in the past.
“Ogulagha and other Ijaw communities are central to Delta’s prosperity. Under my watch, no ethnic group will be neglected. Every community will be part of our development plans,” he declared.
The Governor recalled his previous visits to the Ogulagha Kingdom, noting that his repeated engagements reflected his style of inclusive leadership. He also praised King Timiyan for his integrity and unwavering support during the 2023 general elections, describing him as “a courageous and truthful leader whose loyalty will never be forgotten.”

Oborevwori emphasized that his administration’s approach to development goes beyond urban projects, ensuring that oil-producing areas benefit from government attention. He noted that since taking office, Delta has enjoyed relative peace due to the government’s collaboration with communities and respect for traditional institutions.
“Governance is not just about city flyovers or highways. Ignoring oil-producing areas leads to unrest. Since I assumed office, we have had no attacks on oil installations because we have maintained mutual respect and partnership with the people,” he said.
The Governor also highlighted Delta’s strong financial management, declaring that “no contractor is being owed and the state has not borrowed a dime,” a record he attributed to prudent leadership and fiscal discipline.
He further urged continued peace and cooperation with the Federal Government, stating that such harmony would attract more development projects to the state. “Peace is the foundation for growth. We are working closely with the Federal Government because Mr. President loves Delta State, and this partnership benefits all Deltans,” he said.
Oborevwori thanked the people of Ogulagha Kingdom for their hospitality and loyalty, praying for continued prosperity under the monarch’s reign.
“As we celebrate your 20th coronation anniversary, may your leadership continue to bring unity, progress, and blessings to Ogulagha and the entire Ijaw nation. Delta State will always stand with you,” the Governor concluded.
