The candidate of the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Ali Al-Hassan has been declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Saturday’s Bagwai/Shanono State Assembly by-election in Kano State.
Declaring the result at the Bagwai INEC collation centre in the early hours of Sunday, the Returning Officer, Prof. Hassan Shitu, announced that Al-Hassan polled 16,198 votes to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Muhammed, who had 5,347 votes.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the opposition APC has defeated the ruling NNPP candidate in the rerun for the Ghari/Tsanyawa Constituency in the state.

Announcing the results at the collation center of the state INEC headquarters on Sunday, the Returning Ifficer, Prof. Mohammed Waziri, declared the APC candidate, Ya’u Gwarmai, winner with 31,472 votes, defeating the NNPP candidate, Muhammed Ali, who scored 27,931 vote.
The Ghari/Tsanyawa seat in the state House of Assembly was left vacant after the general and supplementary elections was declared inconclusive, while that of Bagwai/Shanono was conducted to replace the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hallilu Kundila, who died in 2024.
