The Dangote Group has debunked recent media reports claiming that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has begun lifting petrol from its refinery. In a press statement issued on September 4, 2024, the company clarified that NNPC has not yet commenced the lifting of refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
The press release, signed by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, was a response to a misleading headline published in BusinessDay Newspapers, which stated, “NNPC lifts Dangote Petrol, sells at N897 per litre.” Dangote Group emphasized that this report does not reflect the true situation, as the NNPC has not yet finalized its contract with the company.

The statement further explained that the issue of setting fuel prices for petrol lifted from the refinery does not arise at this point, since no products have been lifted by NNPC. Moreover, it pointed out that the PMS market is strictly regulated by government authorities, meaning that Dangote Group has no control over determining, fixing, or influencing the price of petrol.
The Dangote Group urged the public to disregard the misleading headline, reaffirming its commitment to providing high-quality petroleum products to Nigerians. The company assured consumers that these products would soon be available across the country once the necessary agreements with NNPC are concluded.
