The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced its plans to transition to a cloud-based procurement system on the SAP Ariba network, set to take effect by January 2025. This move is part of NNPC’s broader digital strategy to enhance business capabilities, improve competitiveness, and drive better overall performance in the oil and gas sector.
In a statement signed by the Chief Supply Officer, Uzoma M. Emeilife, NNPC confirmed that the transition would connect over 5,000 vendors to contracting opportunities through the secure and exclusive Ariba platform, designed to streamline the end-to-end procurement of goods and services.
Emeilife emphasized that this significant step aligns with the government’s presidential directives aimed at reducing contracting costs and timelines in the petroleum sector. He stated, “This digital enablement will enhance the efficiency of the petroleum industry’s contracting cycle, lower costs, and improve overall productivity.”

Under the new system, all procurement stages, including the issuance of Requests for Quotation (RFQ), Requests for Proposal (RFP), bid submissions, contract negotiations, purchase orders, and invoice processing, will be conducted via the NNPC Ariba platform.
The transition is expected to greatly enhance supplier experience by minimizing human interface, improving transparency, and fostering greater collaboration and best practices across the procurement process.
