In a major boost for grassroots sports development, the Chairman of the Kaduna State Volleyball Association, Engineer Nimrod, has approved N2.8 million in scholarships for promising volleyball players in the state, alongside monthly stipends for elite athletes.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, a board member of the Kaduna State Volleyball Association responsible for media, and released to journalists on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

According to the statement, the scholarship scheme is an annual initiative open to volleyball players currently enrolled in tertiary institutions across Nigeria, underscoring the association’s commitment to combining academic advancement with athletic excellence.

The Secretary of KADSVA, Adamu Mohammed, revealed that 14 student-athletes benefited from the scholarship programme, with each recipient receiving N80,000. The beneficiaries include Agape Sunday, Ramatu Abdulmalik, Joy Lawrence, Joy Osumuriyi, Fani Stephen, Patience Abuh, Ramatu Hamza, Emmanuel Nicholas, Jethro Danlami, Chinoye John, Esther Ogazi, Jamilu Musa, Bobai Andrew, and Mohammed Abubakar.

Beyond academic support, Engineer Nimrod also approved monthly stipends of N30,000 for a select group of elite players over an eight-month period. Seven athletes benefited from the initiative, with each receiving a total of N240,000 to support their training and welfare. The beneficiaries are Emmanuel Alex, Itodo Ojonimi, Emmanuel Samuel, Isaac A. James, Rosemary Sunday, Pamela Bawa, and Blessing Okpara.

The players described the intervention as timely and life-changing, noting that the financial support would help them focus on both their sporting careers and personal development. They expressed deep appreciation to Engineer Nimrod, who also serves as President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, lauding his consistent investment in youth development and sports growth.

Many of the beneficiaries also offered prayers for his continued success and protection, describing the gesture as a clear demonstration of leadership and commitment to the future of volleyball in Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
