The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Landmark University to promote meteorological research and enhance climate science education in Nigeria.
The partnership will improve the gathering and analysis of climate data and support efforts aimed at fostering environmental resilience and sustainable development in the country.
Additionally, the collaboration will focus on advocating for policy changes and expanding educational programs that incorporate climate science into academic curricula.
During the MoU signing, NiMet’s Director-General/CEO, Prof. Charles Anosike, highlighted that this initiative aligns with NiMet’s goal of enhancing data-driven forecasting and early warning systems. He mentioned that the partnership will facilitate research in critical areas such as drought monitoring, flood analysis, and agricultural planning.

The Pro-Chancellor of Landmark University, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oyeniyi, also spoke about the university’s dedication to fostering an environment conducive to collaborative research. He noted that the institution will engage in research partnerships, staff exchange initiatives, and community outreach to translate scientific discoveries into actionable solutions for farmers, policymakers, and local communities.
This MoU underscores the significance of strong collaborations between academic institutions and government agencies in tackling climate change and fostering sustainable development. By leveraging NiMet’s technical capabilities alongside Landmark University’s research expertise, the partnership aims to establish a more effective framework for climate monitoring, education, and innovation throughout Nigeria.
