The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has taken a bold step toward revolutionizing its operations with the introduction of the Balanced Scorecard Performance Management System. Directors and senior management staff participated in an intensive training session on December 11, 2024, organized in collaboration with Balanced Scorecard West Africa, a leading consultancy firm.
The training, themed “Balanced Scorecard Performance Management System,” aligns with the seven-point agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the performance bond signed between aviation agencies and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo.
NiMet’s Director General and CEO, Prof. Charles Anosike, emphasized the agency’s renewed focus on capacity building and staff welfare as key pillars of performance management. According to him, this initiative represents a strategic shift toward enhancing the agency’s efficiency and innovation.
“We are embarking on a transformative journey at NiMet with the implementation of the Balanced Scorecard Performance Management System,” Anosike stated. “This globally recognized management tool translates strategy into performance, enabling organizations to improve strategy formulation and foster lasting creativity.”

Prof. Anosike explained that the balanced scorecard approach empowers organizations to effectively communicate strategies to stakeholders and prioritize value-creation activities. He highlighted that modern organizations derive value not just from tangible assets but from innovative ideas, strong supplier relationships, key information databases, and service delivery excellence.
“Value lies in the creativity of people, the quality of service delivery, and a culture of innovation,” Anosike noted. “At NiMet, we must unite to address challenges and create value in unprecedented ways.”
He urged all staff to embrace performance management as a foundation for achieving the agency’s goals, in alignment with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “Strategy dictates the path forward. It’s not the change effort that leads to failure but the execution and implementation,” he remarked.
