Prof. Anosike made this statement during the NiMet 2025 stakeholders’ engagement forum held at the Admiralty Event and Conference Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Wednesday.
He noted that the theme of the forum: “Early warnings: Raising awareness on climate risks and promoting early action,” marks the first event of its kind in the history of the agency.
The NiMet chief said the platform aims to promote collaboration, share advancements, jointly create solutions, and raise awareness regarding climate risks, while emphasising the importance of NiMet as a key facilitator of early warning systems.
He pointed out that the agency provides essential services to various sectors, including aviation, agriculture, marine economy, water resources, health, energy, disaster risk reduction, and construction.
Prof. Anosike showcased several innovations from NiMet to include seasonal climate prediction, digital climate advisory services, aviation services, marine and blue economy services, public weather services, and research and training.
He also referenced recent infrastructure enhancements backed by President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), which include installing advanced satellite and meteorological equipment.
He called on stakeholders to continue offering constructive feedback and support, stating:
“By working together, we can ensure that early warnings are effective, minimize risks, safeguard investments, and secure our nation’s future amidst a shifting climate,” he concluded.
