Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, is wrapping up his visit to Sweden, where he secured multi-million-dollar investment commitments from Swedish business interests. The vice president’s engagements centered on promoting Nigeria’s growing investment climate and fostering deeper ties with Sweden in key sectors such as the digital economy, health, and transportation.

Speaking after a meeting with Swedish investors in Stockholm, Vice President Shettima highlighted the country’s favorable environment for foreign investments. “Nigeria’s ever-growing investment climate is providing limitless opportunities for serious investors,” he said. The engagements resulted in pledges of substantial investments and partnerships, marking a significant boost to Nigeria’s economic transformation efforts.

A key part of the vice president’s agenda in Sweden was to strengthen the long-standing relationship between the two countries, particularly in areas of trade, technology, and sustainable development. Shettima expressed optimism about future collaborations, noting that both nations stand to benefit greatly from closer ties.

Nigeria's Vice President secures investment commitments during Sweden visitAs part of his itinerary, Vice President Shettima visited the headquarters of Scania, a leading Swedish automotive manufacturer, in Södertälje. The visit, he described, was strategic, with discussions centered on Nigeria’s market potential and opportunities for deeper collaboration. The talks with Scania explored biofuel solutions for Nigeria’s transport sector, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s push for cleaner, more efficient energy sources, particularly compressed natural gas (CNG). “All options must be on the table to address Nigeria’s transportation challenges,” the vice president emphasized.

Shettima’s visit also included a tour of Ericsson’s Global Headquarters and Research and Development Lab in Kista, where a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Nigerian government and Ericsson. The deal establishes a 5G Innovation Lab aimed at positioning Nigeria as a global leader in 5G technology. The signing was witnessed by Nigeria’s Minister for Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and Ericsson’s Senior Vice President, marking a major step in advancing Nigeria’s technological capabilities.

In addition to these business engagements, Vice President Shettima held high-level talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Stockholm. Their discussions covered a range of topics, including trade expansion, strategic partnerships, and regional security cooperation. The vice president was accompanied by Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and other Nigerian embassy officials.
