Nigeria’s Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to driving the nation’s digitization efforts. Speaking at a stakeholder retreat in Abuja, the minister emphasized the transformative potential of Project 774, an initiative aimed at fostering inclusive development and expanding access to digital public infrastructure across the country.

Dr. Tijani highlighted the pivotal role of local governments in the digitization agenda, stating, “As digitization progresses at the center, it will create an enabling environment for local governments to digitize seamlessly.” He underscored the importance of building a unified digital ecosystem to bridge the technological divide and accelerate economic growth.

At the heart of the discussions during the retreat was the National Digital Governance Bill, a legislative framework designed to revolutionize Nigeria’s digital landscape. The bill, currently being reviewed across the country, seeks input from diverse societal segments to ensure inclusivity and relevance.

The stakeholder retreat, organized by the Ministry of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, concluded on November 21, 2024. Sessions were held simultaneously across five states—Taraba, Kwara, Kogi, Abia, and Plateau—engaging participants from various sectors to foster collaboration and gather insights for refining the bill.

The launch of Project 774 and the focus on the National Digital Governance Bill mark a significant step forward in Nigeria’s efforts to digitize its economy and governance systems. By empowering local governments and engaging stakeholders at all levels, the ministry aims to create a robust digital infrastructure that fosters innovation, enhances public services, and drives sustainable economic growth.
