In a major win for Nigeria’s fight against insurgency, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralized 16 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in a daring midnight operation in Damboa, Borno State.

The offensive, which began around 1 a.m. on May 23, 2025, was launched after intelligence reports indicated that the terrorists were regrouping for a large-scale assault on a nearby military brigade. The Nigerian Army confirmed the development in a statement posted to its official X handle, detailing how the operation unfolded with speed, precision, and firepower.

Acting swiftly, the troops initiated a coordinated counter-offensive using sustained indirect fire to disrupt the insurgents’ movement. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, air support was immediately deployed, turning the mission into a joint ground and aerial assault.

What followed was a fierce two-hour gun battle that left the terrorist camp in disarray. Facing overwhelming firepower from Nigerian forces, the militants were forced to retreat, leaving behind bodies, weapons, and key logistical supplies. Sixteen terrorists were confirmed dead at the scene.

Military sources disclosed that the engagement also targeted a suspected ammunition storage site used by the insurgents. The explosion was contained, and no civilian or military casualties were reported in the aftermath.

Following the firefight, troops launched a hot pursuit to track down fleeing insurgents and neutralize any remaining cells. The success of the operation marks a significant blow to ISWAP/Boko Haram’s ability to carry out future attacks in the region and is expected to disrupt their operations in southern Borno.

This latest offensive underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the northeast. As the military intensifies its counter-terrorism efforts, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies.

The Nigerian Armed Forces continue to demonstrate resilience and tactical superiority, reaffirming their position as a formidable force against terrorism.
