In a decisive blow to insurgent operations in the North-East, Nigerian troops under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks in Buratai and Mallam Fatori, both located in Borno State.
The operations, which took place on Thursday, 5 June 2025, resulted in the deaths of several insurgents and the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
According to the Defence Headquarters, the attempted infiltration in Buratai, situated in Biu Local Government Area, was thwarted in the early hours of the morning. Troops engaged the attackers with heavy gunfire, supported by precision airstrikes from the Air Component of OPHK. Several terrorists were neutralised on the spot, and multiple high-calibre weapons were seized from the scene.
In a separate but related incident in Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area, troops again outmanoeuvred terrorists who launched a multi-pronged assault on their positions. Nigerian forces responded with superior firepower, forcing the insurgents into a disorganised retreat. Pursuing troops reportedly killed scores of fleeing fighters. Early assessments revealed the recovery of AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine Guns, Rocket Propelled Grenades, and other combat-grade equipment.
