Nigeria has recorded another global triumph as two brilliant young girls, Akachukwu Blessed Nwachukwu and Ifunanya Gabriella Okoye, emerged champions at the 2025 Technovation Global Summit in the United States.

The 10-year-old innovators from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, stunned the world with their groundbreaking artificial intelligence app, Stay Woke, which combats drowsy and distracted driving. The mobile application uses facial recognition and voice interaction to monitor drivers in real time, issuing alerts that can help prevent fatal accidents.

Competing as Team Appsolute, the duo defeated strong contenders from Japan, Canada, Spain, and Peru to secure the coveted world title in the Beginner Division. Their victory placed Nigeria at the center of the global tech conversation, showcasing the country’s growing pool of young innovators.

Technovation, recognized as the world’s largest tech entrepreneurship program for girls aged 8 to 18, drew over 33,000 participants from 117 countries this year. Out of that number, 11,000 completed the program, producing more than 3,200 tech-based solutions. Against these overwhelming odds, the Nigerian team’s success stood out as a symbol of resilience and creativity.

Their mentor, Somkenechukwu Mamah, founder of the Code Ambassadors Academy, described the victory as “a breakthrough moment for African innovation.” He praised the girls for their courage and brilliance, noting that they had proven young Nigerians can compete and win at the highest level of global technology competitions.

Akachukwu and Ifunanya credited their success to their mentor’s guidance and the unwavering encouragement of their parents. Both girls trained at Code Ambassadors Academy, a STEM-accredited organization that has already equipped over 7,000 Nigerian children with skills in coding, robotics, artificial intelligence, and design.
