The Nigerian Army has announced plans to establish a Forward Operating Base (FOB) on a 400-hectare site in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, a move designed to tighten security and improve rapid military response across Kogi East Senatorial District.

According to a statement from Army Headquarters, the new base will be strategically located along the Anyigba–Iyale road, a critical route that links several communities in the region. Military officials believe this location will allow troops to respond quickly to threats and improve the safety of residents.

A high-powered team led by the Deputy Chief of Operations, Major General P.B. Kaughna, visited the proposed site on September 16 for an on-the-spot assessment. They were received by Brigadier General K.U. Sidi, Commander of the 12 Brigade, who joined them to inspect the land earmarked for the project.

The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Ogohi-Onu Anyigba, Alhaji Shuaibu Okolo, the traditional leader of the host community. The Army emphasized that strong collaboration with local leadership is central to the success of the initiative, ensuring residents feel both protected and included.

In addition, the team visited existing troop locations at FOB Oguma, Ejule, and Patrol Base Ayingba. These visits gave commanders the opportunity to engage directly with soldiers, evaluate their readiness, and review the challenges they face in maintaining security across Kogi East.

The Army described the entire process as smooth and productive, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening security architecture in Kogi State. The new Forward Operating Base is part of a broader strategy to expand military presence in volatile areas, deter criminal activities, and provide lasting stability for communities.

Residents in Kogi East have long expressed concerns about rising insecurity, and the Army’s move to establish a base in Dekina is seen as a significant step in restoring peace and confidence in the region.
