Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, has commended his troops for their pivotal role in increasing oil production in the Niger Delta region. This recognition came during his farewell address on January 21, 2025, at the 63 Brigade headquarters in Asaba, Delta State.
In a statement signed by Lieutenant-Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, the GOC expressed his deep appreciation for the troops’ unwavering efforts. Their commitment has reportedly elevated oil output in the region to an impressive 1.9 to 2 million barrels per day. This achievement brings Nigeria closer to the Federal Government’s target of 2.3 million barrels per day, a crucial goal for the nation’s economic stability.
During his address, Major General Abdussalam urged the troops to remain steadfast, disciplined, and committed to their duties. He emphasized that their contributions are vital to safeguarding the country’s fiscal health while reinforcing the reputation of the Nigerian Army. He also cautioned them against engaging in illegal activities, stressing the importance of maintaining both personal and operational security.

As he prepares to assume a new assignment, Abdussalam reminded the soldiers that postings within the military are routine. He called for their continued cooperation and dedication under the incoming General Officer Commanding.
Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, Commander of the 63 Brigade, applauded Major General Abdussalam for his exceptional leadership, which he said had significantly boosted the morale of the brigade.
The farewell visit was marked by the commissioning of key facilities, including the Brigade Commander’s official residence and a newly constructed dual carriageway at the brigade’s permanent site, aptly named Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja Drive. The event concluded with heartfelt speeches and a group photograph, underscoring Major General Abdussalam’s impactful tenure and legacy.
