Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade have neutralized two terrorists and recovered weapons during a counter-terrorism operation in Taraba State, effectively foiling a planned attack on the Chanchanji community of Takum local government council.
The operation, carried out under Operation LAFIYA NAKOWA and within the framework of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), was aimed at curbing terrorist activity in the region.
It followed credible intelligence indicating that the Bojo terrorist group was plotting an assault on Chanchanji, located in Takum Local Government Area.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 3 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops were swiftly deployed and engaged the terrorists along the Demeva–Chanchanji road on September 15.
“Troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, resulting in the death of one assailant and the retreat of others,” the army reported.

A follow-up pursuit led the troops to the Demeva–Gbudu axis, believed to be an escape route toward the Ananum community in Donga Local Government Area. There, they encountered and neutralized a second terrorist in another gun battle.
The troops recovered a G3 rifle, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the assailants during the operations.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their swift response, courage, and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements threatening the peace and stability of Taraba State.
General Uwa also called on residents to remain alert and collaborate with security forces by providing timely and actionable intelligence. He stressed that civilian cooperation is vital to achieving sustained peace across the region.
