The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has made history by launching its first-ever Pre-Deployment Medical Evacuation Training, a groundbreaking initiative designed to enhance combat resilience and save lives on the battlefield. The training, which took place at the Nigerian Air Force School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine (NAFSMSAM) in Kaduna, focused on lifesaving skills such as Airway Management, Bleeding Control, and Psychological First Aid, key techniques aimed at reducing combat-related fatalities before evacuation.
In a statement shared on its official X handle today, the NAF revealed that the programme is part of a wider strategy to boost frontline medical response in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign. By equipping medical teams with advanced emergency care, the force is strengthening its capacity to protect personnel and sustain morale during combat operations.
Speaking on the milestone, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, said the initiative underscores his vision of building a resilient and professional Air Force that is not only combat-ready but also people-centric. “Our men and women face some of the toughest environments daily. This training ensures that while they defend the nation, they are also prepared to preserve life in the line of duty. It is a reflection of our commitment to resilience and operational effectiveness,” he stated.

The Chief of Medical Services (CMS), Air Vice Marshal Anthony Chidi Ekpe, also lauded the training, noting that it represents more than just acquiring medical skills. “This is about preparedness, confidence, and the assurance that no soldier is left behind on the battlefield. The knowledge gained here will serve our personnel in uniform and beyond, reaffirming NAF’s leadership in combat casualty care,” he said.
With this landmark programme, the Nigerian Air Force has set a new benchmark in troop welfare and medical readiness, reinforcing its commitment to saving lives, boosting morale, and sustaining its edge in the fight against insurgency across the North East and beyond.
