Nigeria has secured the hosting rights for the CAVB 2025 Women’s African Club Volleyball Championship, set to take place in Abuja from April 1 to 14, 2025. This milestone positions the country as a major hub for volleyball in Africa, attracting top clubs from across the continent to compete in the prestigious tournament.
The Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Honourable Bukola Olopade, expressed deep gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for his instrumental role in securing the bid. In a letter of appreciation sent in February 2025, Olopade highlighted the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) critical financial support, particularly in covering the bidding fees, which played a key role in winning the hosting rights.

“At a time when sports development in Nigeria requires urgent support, this proactive intervention has made a significant impact. The commitment of resources to ensure that this prestigious championship is held in Nigeria is a rare demonstration of dedication to national sports growth,” Olopade stated.
With the tournament set to bring together elite volleyball teams from across Africa, the hosting rights mark a major step in positioning Nigeria as a powerhouse in continental sports. The National Sports Commission has reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with stakeholders in crafting sustainable strategies that align with global trends in sports development.
